If you love Halloween, you'll love this Fa-Boo-Lous Socks pattern by Louise Robert! This project is ideal for learning ladderback jacquard. It includes a video tutorial, and the charts have been specially designed to help you apply this colorwork knitting technique.
Halloween originated as a Celtic festival called Samhain, celebrated over 2,000 years ago. The Celts believed that during the night of Samhain, which marked the end of summer and the beginning of the dark winter season, the boundary between the world of the living and the spirit world became particularly thin. This belief allowed the spirits of the dead, both good and evil, to return to Earth and visit their families. To protect themselves from malevolent spirits, people dressed up as scary creatures, such as ghosts, to blend in with them and deceive them. Knit while enjoying some candy! - Louise Robert

GAUGE
32 stitches = 10 cm (4'') work in the round with 2.25 mm (US 1) needles.
NOTE
This pattern can be worked with a set of 5 double-pointed needles (DPNs) or circular needles. For double-pointed needles, divide half of the stitches between needles 1 and 2 and the other half between needles 3 and 4. Since the pattern involves several consecutive stitches of the same color and requires the contrasting yarn to be carried behind the work, I designed this pattern using the ladderback jacquard technique. With this method, instead of crossing the unused yarn behind the work, you create a temporary "ladder stitch" on the wrong side of the work and purl it for as long as needed. To make your work easier, I've modified the charts by adding lines indicating where to create your "ladder stitches". You will find a tutorial on "The three steps of ladder stitching" at the end of the pattern, and I have also prepared a video tutorial to help you understand this fabulous technique.
ENJOY! ♥
