Venus Shawl | Knitting pattern and knitting kits
Join us in our newest Knit-a-long adventure! Experience the captivating Venus shawl, designed by Louise Robert and made with our new Merica.
''This shawl is named Venus because of the pattern's central V, but it also reminds me of Sandro Botticelli's painting Birth of Venus, in which the beautiful Venus emanates from a shell.''
- Louise Robert
You can purchase the pattern only or the knitting kit, which contains both the yarn and the pattern needed to knit this project!
Here is what you need to knit this shawl:
- The Venus shawl knitting pattern (sent as a PDF numeric file) - The pattern is included when you purchase a kit.
- PatricKnits Collection - MERICA (100% untreated merino Rambouillet; 400 m / 100 g) - 3 skeins in contrasting colors - in the kit of your choice (the original version is shown in Blueberry Field, Pinky Promise and Bisque)
To complete this knitting project, you will require these additional accessories along with the knitting kit:
-
Circular needle of 3.5 mm; US #4, cable length of 100 cm; 40" or more (or size needed to obtain gauge)
AND
A needle of 4.5 mm; US #7 to bind-off only (or 1 mm larger than the size needed to obtain gauge)
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers 26 identical or similar stitch markers + 3 different markers to identify the central V (CM, RCM, & LCM)
- Blocking tools: mat and pins
- Cable needle (optional)
FINAL SIZE - Width: 168 cm; 70" x Height 69 cm x 27"
GAUGE - 24 sts x 38 rows = 10 cm; 4 inches in stockinette st before blocking and 22 sts x 36 rows = 10 cm; 4 inches in stockinette stitch after blocking.
NOTE - This shawl is formed by a central V set with chevron stripes on either side. Its composition is accentuated by the play of colors, which form soothing sinuous lines right up to the final border, where a lace motif is added. Once the chevron pattern is in place, it's easy to memorize and a pleasure to knit. You can make it shorter or longer by adding or subtracting the 16 rows of the chevron pattern.

2024-05-15: Correction to the chart in the CHEVRON PATTERN - LEFT SIDE OF THE CENTRAL MARKER, rows 9 and 16.
2024-06-23: Updated the lace section for the written instructions to reflect the Chqrt. ''Author's comment: I wasn't in too much of a hurry to correct the final border since; I think the result is equally beautiful in both cases,.''
So it's up to you to keep the 2 versions or simply replace them with this version.
