Inspired by the culture and rich colors of Mexico, here is the México, te quiero Hats, a design by Louise Robert featuring two patterns: a Corazón Sagrado (Sacred Heart) and a Catrín (skeletal figure).

One skein of Highland yarn in each color is enough to knit both versions, and you'll enjoy how quickly they come together, worked in 60-stitch rounds with 8 mm needles.

The Corazon Sagrado is a powerful symbol of both religious devotion and Mexican cultural identity. When depicted with flames, it can symbolize passion, strength, and eternal hope. The Catrín is a symbol of Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday that celebrates and honors loved ones who have passed away. This skeletal figure serves as a reminder to embrace death as a natural part of life and to live authentically. - Louise Robert

You have the option to purchase the pattern only or the knitting kit, which contains both the yarn and the pattern needed to knit this project!

NOTES

THE ROUND CONSTRUCTION: This pattern can be worked using either double-pointed or circular needles. Depending on the technique you choose for working with circular needles, you may need to switch to double-pointed needles for the decrease rounds. If you use DPNs, I suggest you split your rounds into 3 sets of 20 sts.

THE COLORWORK: There are two charts, one for the Corazon (heart) pattern and one for the Catrín (skeleton head) pattern. Please use the chart and follow the instructions accordingly.

For the Corazon version only: please note that row 19 of the chart increases the round by 6 stitches (2 sts per pattern repeat) to create the flames. These stitches are decreased on round 20. I suggest adding a stitch marker between each chart repeat and using a different one to identify the beginning/end of the rounds. Since the pattern involves several consecutive stitches of the same color and requires the contrasting yarn to be carried behind the work, I designed this pattern using the Ladderback Jacquard (LBJ) technique. With this method, instead of crossing the unused yarn behind the work, you create a temporary "ladder stitch" on the wrong side of the work and purl it until needed. To make your work easier, I've designed the charts by adding bold vertical lines indicating where to create your "ladder stitches". You will find a tutorial on "The three steps of ladder stitching" at the end of the pattern, and I have also prepared a video tutorial to help you understand this fabulous technique.

ENJOY! ♥
