This beautiful top-down Fair Isle pattern, the Lakeside Retreat Socks, is an original design by Lisa K. Ross for Biscotte Yarns, first released in 2018.

Refreshed in 2025, this design invites you to explore new kits featuring vibrant colors that will enhance your knitting experience!

Sitting by the water’s edge, dreaming of days gone by and things to come, it’s easy to find peace. These socks are inspired by the serene moments enjoyed by the lakeside. The rhythmic repeatable patterning creates satisfying results, while the solid colors and Biscotte’s self-striping yarn produce nice results. You might not be able to get away from it all, but these socks are sure to capture the spirit of your own Lakeside Retreat. - Lisa K. Ross

You have the option to purchase the pattern only or the knitting kit, which contains both the yarn and the pattern needed to knit this project!

GAUGE

32 stitches x 48 rows = 10 cm (4") after blocking in Stockinette Stitch pattern on smaller needles.

32 stitches x 32 rows = 10 cm (4") after blocking in colorwork pattern on larger needles needles.

NOTE

When working stranded colorwork, one color will be dominant, meaning that the stitches are slightly larger and this color will be more prominent. In this design, you can choose either color to be dominant, but the important thing is to be consistent. To do this, make a note of how each color is held and be sure that the position of the yarns remains the same throughout the socks. I recommend using a flexible cast-on for top-down socks (such as Old Norwegian or Long Tail CO). My favorite is Tillybuddy’s CO. It’s tricky to work, but creates a flexible edge that isn’t restrictive and melds perfectly with 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing. Check out the following link for a tutorial HERE.

ENJOY! ♥
