Description

This hand-dyed artisanal yarn is no ordinary knitting yarn: the designer behind the knitting patterns Louise Robert Design meticulously created this beautiful collection.

It's by studying the color pallets that represent her life and career over the years that designer Louise Robert was able to imagine all of the variety available in these hand-dyed artisanal yarns.

BONHEUR D’OCCASION is the first novel by Gabrielle Roy, published in 1945. The story takes place in the once impoverished district of Saint-Henri, Montreal, during the Second World War. Only after reading some of her work did I learn that Gabrielle Roy was also one of my grandmother’s favorite authors. It warmed my heart. - Louise
  • Composition: 70% Silk, 30% Seacell
  • Quantity (Weight): 100 grams, 3.5oz
  • Length: 250 meters (275 yds)

Seacell is a silky fiber made from seaweed and eucalyptus fibers. Seacell is hypoallergenic and very gentle. Algae for the marine cells are harvested in sparsely populated fjords of Iceland, in places where there is no waste or pollution from ships. Combined with silk, it creates a luxurious and shiny thread.

If you love to knit with Biscotte Yarns, you will fall head over heels with this artisanal, hand-dyed ALGUA MARINA yarn by Louise Robert Design. Whether you are knitting a gorgeous shirt, a shawl or an ultra soft blanket, there's nothing better than an original, artisanal yarn designed by a passionate knitter for knitting enthusiasts.

CAUTION ON WINDING:
In order to preserve the delicacy of this fibre, we advise you to wind any skein of Algua Marina with great care.

Since these are hand dyed the color is never the same as pictured. But still beautiful. I’ve found most purples are duller in color and lean towards a pewter color, but that’s just the batch I purchased from. Each one is different. The quality of the yarn makes up for this though. Once I get my hands on it I can’t help but to start knitting. Such a beautiful sheen and lovely to work with. I’ve never returned a skein and intend to buy more!

Fabulous yarn!

I’ve knitted for over 15 years, with countless varieties of extremely high-quality, hand-dyed yarn, and Biscotte’s Algua Marina Bonheur d’Occasion is absolutely the best I’ve ever worked with. I’m a sucker for deep, multifaceted colorways, and Biscotte marries this to a lovely silky feel that knits up beautifully and has a lovely drape whilst still retaining enough structure to give my stitches good definition. Spoiler alert: I’ve already ordered more and will keep doing so - bravo and thank you, Biscotte!

Lovely but not as pictured

This yarn knits so smoothly! While I still love this color, it’s much more muted and light than in the photo. It’s almost a silvery gray purple/lilac. Not dark at all. I love how it has slightly lighter parts mixed in. This matches Marie Antoinette ( which is also not a dark purple as pictured) color perfectly. Same shade except this one has lighter accents in it. I casted on with marie Antoinette and the last two rows I switched to Stonehenge. Very slight difference. I can barley tell.
