Here is an original sock pattern written by the very talented General Hogbuffer for Biscotte Yarns!

This design is essentially a modular construction, but using self-striping yarn will help disguise the precise nature of the construction.
In the red/white/blue color scheme that I used, the finished socks look very much like somebody took the British Union, Jack, smashed it into little pieces and reassembled the pieces into a sock shape, hence the name. Other color choices will, of course, produce a completely different effect.

IN ADDITION TO THE SOCK PATTERN, GENERAL HOGBUFFER RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL TO KNIT THESE SOCKS:

YARN
1 skein Biscotte & Cie self-striping sock yarn (the color used for the sample is Go Habs Go). The socks were knitted in the larger size, with a foot length equivalent to a US 10/UK 9/Eur 43. For anything bigger than this, I would suggest using a second skein, as there was very little left over.

NEEDLES
2.5 mm or anything that will get you the desired gauge and a fabric drape that you will be happy with. I have used 2 circulars and 2 DPNs, but the circulars should be sufficient. I would highly recommend that you re-distribute the sts between the needles as you work; a bit of trial and error will tell you what is most comfortable for you (there is no right or wrong method), and then you can work all tiers in the same manner.

GAUGE
I have got 34 sts/44 rows per 4 inches (although the row gauge is less important) over stocking stitch worked back and forth. Since you will be working a small portion of stockinette stitch in the round at the end, it will help if your gauge does not differ too much between the two methods; small differences will not be noticeable.

SIZES
I am giving you instructions for sizes M (64 sts) and L (72 sts), but the principle can be adapted to any number of stitches that is a multiple of 8. Combined with my gauge above, the socks in size L came out with a leg and foot circumference of 8 ½ inches (unstretched).

The pattern is sent in PDF format: a link will appear on the final screen upon order completion, and you will also get a link to download the pattern by email!  Enjoy!
